Oki Electric develop's its first electronic computer, the OKITAC-5090
Once in the 1960's, Oki Electric bolstered its efforts further in the electronic field. In his new years greeting in January 1960, President Kanbe spoke about the company's performance in the electronics field as effecting its very existence. "Lagging behind in either the energy revolution or the development of electronic equipment could mean our fall into becoming a third or forth rated company. For our company's future prosperity, therefore, I want you to make strenuous efforts now to develop products in the electronics field." Hence under this remit the following decades saw Oki's innovation thrive.
1961
Oki Electric developed its first
electronic computer a general-purpose computer the OKITAC-5090. It
was the first domestically produced computer to use core
memory.
Oki Electric launched its first electronic teletypewriter
1964
Launch of Oki's first SIDM (Serial Impact Dot Matrix) printer.
1967
The Fuji Bank installed its online savings account system using
OKISAVER terminals.
1969
Having experienced the beneficial effects of real-time online
processing first hand, the Fuji Bank decided to install an online
network to cover all deposits and foreign exchange transactions.
The success of the Fuji Bank system stimulated other banks and
companies in the securities industry to install similar systems,
many of these using the OKISAVER and other Oki Electric
terminals.
