OKI Printing Solutions and TyTags help horticulturalists to do it themselves

01/08/2006

April 2006: OKI Printing Solutions and Australian labelling specialist, TyTags today announced a partnership that provides a solution to the traditional drawbacks of printing pictorial labels for horticultural centres.

Tytags Australia and OKI Printing Solutions have developed a customisable label printing solution called, Tytags Do-It-Yourself Complete. This allows horticulturalists to print the pictorial plant labels they want, without needing to stock a large number of professionally printed expensive labels, and allowing them to reduce materials and labour costs by up to 40 percent.

"Pictorial labels have increasingly become a competitive advantage for wholesale growers looking to sell to large retail chains and for retail nurseries looking to increase sales and strengthen their image," said Charles Sweeney, Managing Director of TyTags Australia. "Yet despite all their benefits, traditional pictorial labels have become a time-consuming and pricy proposition with many downsides.

"The market is crying out for a pictorial tag that can be customised and printed on demand. The TyTag solution fits this brief perfectly and intial market response has been strong," said Mr Sweeney.

According to Jeremy De Silva, Product Marketing Director for Oki Printing Solutions, the Tytags partnership is one of many that will be announced by Oki Printing Solutions during 2006.

"This new partnership with TyTags takes us into a small but burgeoning horticultural market sector with a very well considered and developed product that will exceed the expectations of nurseries.

"Developing niche printing solutions with our partners is a very important aspect of our business plans. Already this year, we've announced a partnership with Anoto, which will see the Oki Printing Solutions technology be increasingly used in medical markets especially.

"We will continue to welcome innovative opportunities from our partners who seek to target specific vertical markets," said Mr De Silva.

The Printing Dilemma
The problem the horticultural industry has is that pictorial labels have only been available as pre-printed plastic tags and then must be purchased in bulk. This means that growers have had to predict what they will need many months in advance and stock thousands - sometimes tens-of-thousands of dollars worth of pictorial labels. Bulk-ordered pictorials do not carry price or stock management information which means double, even triple labelling is needed. So even with all their benefits, traditional pictorial labels have become a time-consuming and pricy proposition.

The Solution
Tytags DIY pictorial labels can include pricing information, barcodes, stock numbers and even serial numbers, which completely eliminates the need for multiple tagging and will cut labelling material and labour costs by 30 to 40 per cent by using the TyTags solution.

DIY labels and tags also help build brand and generate return sales, because nurseries will now be able to customise pictorials to include the nursery name, logo and contact details.

Tytags DIY Complete consists of four components: a high-end Digital Colour Printer from OKI Printing Solutions, specially developed UV-resistant Tytags DIY labels and tags, Tytags DIY Complete labelling software and the PlantFile database.

By integrating PlantFile, Tytags DIY Complete has access to over 6,000 photographs and detailed descriptions of over 1900 commonly used ornamental and native plants. There are templates for all sorts of jobs: stick-in plant description tags, self-tying stock labels, signs, and even serialised tags for propagation. Growers can also add their own photographs, text and logos, or combine their own information with that of PlantFile.
